I have not written any posts recently !! I know find myself with a lot of time on my hands with the Corona Virus pandemic.
So work was really busy, I hadn’t blogged , as I was doing okay new cockapoo puppy Ralph joined us, we have a new dog Peanut a beautiful 8 month old border terrier and Wilf yet another cockapoo and he is just 9 month old, all my new clients have not come my website or a google search but all word of mouth, my new cat sitting clients have come from google search.
I had new cats booked in and I looked after new cast in February, all in all my small local business was doing really well, the other reason was the weather, we had a horrendous February , just constant rain, mud and all the washing of the dogs that comes with that so I was exhausted and lastly beginning of March caught awful tummy bug even had a day off sick, then corona virus stopped us in our tracks and closed Little Happy Hounds down.
So it was confusing last weekend, wether to close or not, a lot of my dog walking clients were supporting me by having walks booked in even though they were working from home, but in the end last Monday I couldn’t socially distance myself on walks, people were out enjoying the sunshine and as I am going from clients homes and they are in, I cant be sure I am not spreading this awful virus so I closed down.
Most dog walkers have, just a few have not, thank god for saving as it looks like Government financial help for the self employed isn’t coming till June, so I am 100s of pounds down with loosing the last week of March, I had a cat booking cancel, another one cancel in April I wont know the true scale of how much I’ve lost of months to come, as when and if I come back clients might reduce days some might even go as their jobs have collapsed who knows ! For me it was too unethical to keep working, I don’t want to catch the corona virus and I don’t want to spread it, so if the prime minster tells me to stay indoors I am staying indoors.
So I am at home in Chinley, mostly looking after my dog , my partner is bed sick with the same stomach bug I had weeks ago. And in a lot of ways society is breaking down with the corona virus. You have people abandoning pets, people panic buying and causing a shortage of food for everyone else, we now have a system were you have to queue outside to go into a supermarket as its restricted on how many people can be in there at once, I actually have to much social anxiety to even think about going to a supermarket.
You can’t order food anymore online groceries places fully booked, and people aren’t listing to the governments lock downs they are still heading out and going on long walks in the Peak District. Lucky for me my house is actually in the Peak District national park boundary and behind it we have beautiful rolling countryside, behind our house is Crackern Edge and Chinley Churn, so I am able to keep walking scrappy my dog in wide open space and give people I meet a wide birth, the joys of living in Chinley.
So watch this space, we are hoping to be back after the Easter break, depending what the government say, when its okay to return to normality and I will try and pick up the pieces of my dog walking business !!
